| The name or term "Sunder" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Sunder (disambiguation). |
- Sunder is an Autobot from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Mnemosurgery is no easy job; some 'bots are not cut out for the task of browsing through memories of patients and analyzing them. Such is the case with Sunder. A former practitioner of the field, nowadays he's more well-known for having embarked in numerous murders.
Fiction
IDW Generation 1 continuity
Sunder used to be a world-class mnemosurgeon, until his life took a drastic turn for the worse in a undisclosed moment of his life, going on massive killing sprees under his new name, The Tetrahex Ripper. Speak, Memory: Part 1 The only clue we have is that the job itself may have done him in, for he talked of the job as walking with death, knowing it was getting closer and closer until the fatal injection but being unable to stop. Speak, Memory! (Part 2)
At some point, he was detained and sentenced to Garrus 6 for maximum security containment. Following his arrest, he developed a new skill: Remote mnemosurgery, which allowed him to probe through his victim's mind without even touching them. He simultaneously acquired an "appetite" for memories obtained this way, the darker the better. During transport, he used his talent to make the guards forget to lock the doors, allowing him to escape. Reuniting with his brother Sceptre along the way, the two attempted to escape aboard a shuttle, taking Froid hostage to ensure their safety. The shuttle was brought down regardless, taking Sceptre's life. Following the death of his spark-brother, Sunder made a deal with Froid: if Froid helped him cope with Sceptre's death and kept him fed, Sunder would help Froid with his work. Speak, Memory: Part 1 We're a little dubious about this deal as the two used Spectre's corpse as their new ship.Speak, Memory! (Part 2)
During his time inside his brother's rotting corpse, Sunder used art as a way to express himself. Being a big fan of the Guiding Hand, his art came in the form of "Mortilus" and "the death bringer" scrabbled in various dialects across the ship's walls. Froid removed Sunder's eyes at some point to better control him and his appetite, having convinced him that he needed to see his patients before he could feed on them. Froid wore the eyeballs around his neck disguised as a pair of Primal Beads. Every so often, he'd 'need' to eat a patient to stay manageable Speak, Memory: Part 1 but Froid, despite being piss-scared, kept him around anyway: on the mechnical world of Scarvix, Sunder's remote viewing powers meant Froid could be quietly informed of his patients' memories without them knowing. That dangerous killer was making him the most effective (and rich and famous!) therapist on the planet! Speak, Memory! (Part 2)
Later, Froid attempted to feed his rival Rung to Sunder. He was denied from feasting upon the psychiatrist thanks to the intervention of Skids, but Froid was able to return his eyes, allowing him to incapacitate Rung before gaining access into Skids' memories... Speak, Memory: Part 1
...and then release Sunder, believing it the "least worst option" now the Ripper knew there was all sorts of food out there. Sunder displayed a new power, mentally forcing Transformers to transform after making them forget how and thus making them turn themselves inside out. He started with the guards Fervor and Kindle and then moved into the rest of the ship, which went under lockdown. Numerous others fell, including Rodimus. Karma caught up with Froid as Sunder feasted on his sin and killed the man.
Thunderclash and Megatron engaged the monster but Sunder, rattled, retaliated by having Spectre's body/ship transform into battle armour for him. We can tell he was rattled because he stopped putting on the creeeeepy dark voice he was doing) He took down Thunderclash but Rung, using remote-controlled gun-wielding drone ships, distracted him long enough for Tailgate to land the final blow by dropping the Rodpod on him. Speak, Memory! (Part 2)
Notes
- His nomme de murder, "the Tetrahex Ripper", is a nod to Peter Sutcliffe's press name of "the Yorkshire Ripper".
- Most of his word balloons are creepily black with white text. This is revealed at the end to be a Mortilus impression done to scare people and he has to concentrate on doing it.
