In an alternate timeline, for two million years, the Council had kept Rung, the so-called "Useless One", at The Cog, where One-of-Twelve tortured him every day while the scientist Quark tried to solve the mystery of what his alternate mode actually was. However it was Sweep who ultimately worked it out while cleaning Rung's cell after he discovered some photonic crystals that the prisoner had internally produced as a result of his trauma. Predestination: An Expert's Guide Modes of Production Due to his discovery, One-of-Twelve declared him "alt mode exalted" as a reward.
