Quantum Laboratories consists of an enclave of brilliant scientists, who develop various revolutionary pieces of technology, including the computer intelligence TORQ III, the most powerful computer on Earth. The work that goes on there is top secret and carefully guarded, but not carefully enough.

Fiction

The Transformers cartoon

Megatron and Soundwave infiltrated the lab, reprogramming TORQ III to follow the Decepticon cause, with the aid of hijacking all of the world's oil tankers. Doctor Paul Gates, locked in his office by the computer, was able to send a distress call to the Autobots, alerting them to the problem. The Autobots arrived and were attacked by mobile machines under the control of TORQ III, forcing them to call in the Dinobots.

Once Dr. Gates had been rescued, the Autobots fought their way to the main building, and Optimus Prime ventured inside. He was able to trick TORQ III into letting him get close enough to clobber the computer, putting it out of commission. Unfortunately Megatron had a backup remote-control device for the tankers, so Gates lent the Autobots a hydrofoil. Day of the Machines

Wings Universe

Wings Universe is based on the Generation 1 cartoon, but deviates from it in cosmetic ways and continuity points.

By 2012, Quantum Laboratories' security was seen over by TORQ V. That didn't stop Ramjet from breaking in and stealing a bunch of blueprints for Clench, and the theft was given over to the Autobots to investigate. A Flash Forward, Part 2
