As Optimus Prime and Ricochet discuss the news of Megatron's death, they are confronted by Warpath, Kup, Camshaft, and Hound in an assassination attempt. Prime uses Ricochet as a shield to take Warpath's blast for him, then tosses his body aside and easily takes out the mutineers. Alpha Trion then shows up with Sky Lynx and Nightscream to try to take down Prime himself.
In the wilderness of Cybertron, Optimus Prime demands Ricochet to verify the rumors of Megatron's assassination, telling his unbelieving bodyguard that his death changes everything. Suddenly, Warpath, Kup, Camshaft, and Hound drive up, despite being assigned elsewhere. Prime quickly realizes they're here to assassinate him as well, and gives them a chance to run away. Refusing, Warpath fires on Optimus Prime, but the Autobot commander uses Ricochet as a shield. Tossing his deceased bodyguard aside, Prime rushes forth against Rodimus' agents, crushing Warpath's cannon and throwing him into Hound. Decapitating Camshaft with his cannon, Prime grabs Kup, remarking on the pity of loosing the old soldier, and crushes his head in his hands. Suddenly, Prime is accosted by Alpha Trion, who, along with Sky Lynx and Nightscream, has come to ensure Prime's death.

Back in the Decepticon base, Starscream laments over Megatron's body as Cyclonus is led away. After discussing options with Landquake and Topspin, and finding out that Heatwave also has his own special powers, Breakaway convinces the four living Nexus Prime members to try to resurrect Megatron.
At Decepticon headquarters, the ranting Cyclonus is arrested, as Heatwave threatens to kill him. Starscream despairs over the corpse of Megatron, while Topspin asks the unsure Landquake what they should do. Breakaway believes they should try to bring Megatron back, telling Landquake that their attempts to revive Skyfall failed because he was offline for a long amount of time, while Megatron has only been offline for a few minutes. Breakaway asks Heatwave if he has any special abilities like the rest, and when the Decepticon tells him he can talk to non-sentient machines, Breakaway tells him that he intends to bring Megatron back to life.

Meanwhile, Optimus Prime introduces his three attackers to Omega Doom, who takes out Alpha Trion handily with a single shot. Prime then orders Omega to continue on to find and destroy the Decepticons, while he himself deals with Sky Lynx and Nightscream.
Greeting his old mentor, Optimus Prime shows Alpha Trion the new Autobot superweapon, Omega Doom. Omega Doom unleashes a blast that seemingly destroys Alpha Trion and a mile of the Cybertron landscape. Pleased, Prime orders his weapon to destroy the Decepticons while he deals with Trion subordinates...

Attempting to use their powers on Megatron, the four find the world fragmenting around them, as visions from the past, old friends, and other universes appear to them, before the four are joined by Skyfall in a shared mindscape. The four are greeted by the voice of Primus, who tells them while this one is farther than most, all Cybertrons are theirs, and that their reunification is at hand. Primus gives them the option to remain individuals, or to die and be reborn, more powerful than ever. The five make an unspoken agreement, and Primus tells his child, Nexus Prime, to arise.

As the four Nexus Prime members start applying their energies to Megatron's body, they find something strange is happening... they seem to be able to see other worlds, as well as Skyfall's essence in the "afterlife". Eventually, they find themselves—including a seemingly now-alive Skyfall—in a featureless white space, where they are greeted by the voice of Primus. He gives them a choice: to die, live as they are, or be reborn as what they were meant to be. After the gestalt members make their deliberations, Primus announces that, "The choice is made. Arise, Nexus Prime."

Quotes

"Long live Rodimus!"
"Rodimus? Please. Rodimus couldn't lead his way out of a foil factory."

Hound fails to impress Optimus Prime with his rallying cries.

"Skyfall! You're alive!"
"Yeah. I... Alpha Trion stabbed me! That jerk!"

Landquake and Skyfall (the master of understated insults)

"WELCOME HOME, MY CHILDREN."
"Home? We're not back on my Cybertron, are we?"
"ALL CYBERTRONS ARE YOURS. THIS ONE IS SIMPLY A BIT FARTHER AWAY THAN MOST."

Primus explains the whole "multiversal singularity" thing to Skyfall.

Primus: "YOU HAVE RETURNED HOME. REUNIFICATION IS AT HAND. YOU MUST CHOOSE."
Landquake: "Choose what?"
Primus: "TO DIE. TO BE REBORN. OR TO LIVE AND FADE AWAY."
Skyfall: "I'm already dead. That's a sucky choice."

—Primus explains the concept of Catch-22

Notes

 • Warpath, Hound, Kup and Camshaft all make their first visual appearances in this story. Warpath and Hound are based on their Universe toys (Warpath's colors reference the GoBot Tank while Hound's are simply 'opposite') and Kup on his "Wings of Honor" toy (with Scourge's colours). Camshaft repurposes the Universe Spy Changer Camshaft toy.
 • Primus tells the Nexus Prime members that Shattered Glass Cybertron is "farther away than most from the center, where all are one".

Errors

 • Generation 1 Downshift's head has been drawn in place of Energon Downshift's.
