Factions
Autobots
In the real world, the Autobot insignia was derived from the head of Prowl's toy.
Its in-universe origin varies: in Generation 1 cartoon continuity it was applied by the Quintessons to their "consumer good" creations, while in Marvel Comics continuity it is seemingly based on the Last Autobot. In 2005 IDW continuity it was "created" by Shockwave, who claimed it to be the face of Primus, as part of an ontological paradox.

The Autobot symbol as it appeared on Generation 1 toy packaging and cartoon scene transitions.
-

-
Autobot (live-action film variant)
The biggest change is that the tops of the eye sockets, horizontal in the G1 symbol, tip down towards the middle in the Movie symbol. -
A metallic variant of the movie Autobot symbol.
-
An early war Autobot insignia variant used in The War Within
Decepticons
In the real world, the Decepticon insignia was based on Soundwave's toy head. In the 1980s the crest of the symbol usually had a "squared-off" bottom, while modern portrayals generally have the crest pointed at the base.
Its origin in-universe is generally less-explored than that of the Autobots. In the Generation 1 cartoon continuity it was a symbol applied to the Quintessons' "military hardware", while in the live-action film series and Aligned continuity family it is seemingly based on the face of the Fallen.

-
The model sheet of the Decepticon symbol created for the G1 cartoon—note the third spike and blunt base on the crest.
-
The Decepticon sigil as it appeared in The Transformers Universe.
-
Decepticon (live-action film variant)
The movie symbol has diamond-shaped eyes, as opposed to the large triangular eyes of the G1 symbol. -
A metallic variant of the movie Decepticon symbol.
-
Decepticon (G2)
The G2 Decepticon symbol is inexplicably identical, aside from color, from the insignia used by the Cybertronian Empire. -
An early war Decepticon insignia variant used in The War Within.
Maximals
The Maximal insignia is a stylised canine or feline face, reflecting the Maximals being primarily made up of mammals and birds.
Predacons
The Predacon insignia is a stylised insect head, as the Predacons consist mainly of invertebrates and reptiles.
