2005 IDW continuity

During the 19th century, the Cybertronian colony Caminus, cut off from the larger galaxy and ignorant of the hatred incurred by their ancestors, sent a ship carrying protoforms into the Gray Area. The ship was intercepted and shot down by a Galactic Council warship, subsequently crashing on an asteroid. Rom, on patrol in the Zone, witnessed the crash and demanded the Council explain itself. They simply warped away while Rom examined the crash site and rescued the only surviving protoform. Rom later returned to the zone to acquire a sample of energon from the wreckage to help the protoform's growth. Shining Armor #1
