In the former Soviet breakaway state of Brasnya, Megatron reveals his new (but familiar to fans) alt-mode of a human-sized handgun.  He is able shrink into this form using the rare mass displacement, made possible by Ore-13.  He assigns his facsimile construct Georgi Koska to use him to blow up an oil pipeline and agitate Brasnya's political enemies.  When their Russian opposition arrives, the Decepticons escalate tensions by covertly attacking both sides.
Optimus Prime refuses to allow a search for Sunstreaker until the Decepticons are under control, and orders an Autobot contingent to Brasnya.  However, Ironhide and Ratchet plan to disobey Prime's orders and investigate Sunstreaker's disappearance based on a lead from Jimmy.
Three reinforcements arrive — Hot Rod, Hardhead and Nightbeat.

Synopsis

File:Massdisplacement.jpg
I'll do whatever I have to to make it more like 1984!
