Boss (G1)

Boss is an Autobot Turbomaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Like a ME.

Subcommander of the Turbomasters, Boss lives up to his name. A commanding presence both on and off the battlefield, he's got a dangerous combination of smarts, bravery, and heavy firepower. He's the type to lead by example, being right up on the front lines with the rest of the troops, adapting his battlefield strategies quickly to account for whatever tactic the Decepticons might throw at them.

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Later, in the Hall of Justice...

After the conquest of Cybertron by Megatron and the Aerospace Extermination Squadron, Boss and the rest of the Turbomasters evaded capture and participated in the Autobot underground resistance. The Age of Wrath Pt.2 Perceptor briefed the Turbomasters in the Think-Tank about the attempt to locate the missing Optimus Prime. When Perceptor left them alone, however, the Turbomasters partook in a game of tear'n'chase. Flash evaded his pursuing teammates, but accidentally drove into the Dimensional Interface Assembly, sending him somewhere very far from home... The Age of Wrath Pt.3

The Age of Wrath ceased publication before the story could conclude. The following would have taken place in unpublished issues.

Following Flash's sudden disappearance, Boss and the other Turbomasters learned from Perceptor that their teammate had been drawn through the Interfacer, but the scientist was unable to deal with the situation at the moment. The Age of Wrath Pt.4 They set about mucking around with Perceptor's Assembly by themselves, and inadvertently returned Optimus Prime to Cybertron in their efforts to retrieve Flash. The Age of Wrath Pt.5 Flash returned as well, but was damaged beyond repair by the time his team found him. Before he died, he gave the other Turbomasters evidence that Megatron had been in cahoots with the Quintesson, which was used to pit the Decepticon's allies against him. The Age of Wrath Pt.6

2005 IDW continuity

Fort Max is hereby awarded the title of "Big Boss".

Boss was part of an Autobot squad led by Sunstreaker when they were attacked by Deadlock and his troops. The Autobots lost that battle, and were forced to retreat. Drift #1

Many years later, Boss was a crew member on the Lost Light on its journey to find the Knights of Cybertron, and was seen taking shelter from a spark-eater with Hoist. The Chaos of Warm Things He was among those shot down by Fortress Maximus when he went on a rampage and began firing on Autobots with color schemes similar to Overlord's. All the victims survived and were taken to the medibay for attention. Interiors When the actual Overlord appeared on the ship, Boss was among the crew members who attempted to fight him. Boss gathered alongside many of his fellow crew when Rodimus announced news about Thunderclash's pre-wake. The Sensuous Frame

Boss and the security team caught Cyclonus and Tailgate after their apparent assassination attempt on Megatron. When Cyclonus appeared to reach for his Great Sword, the guards opened fire. The Lopsided Triangle

Some time later, Boss fought against Rust Giants on Miliarium under Megatron's command. However, when Getaway and Atomizer led a mutiny against the former Decepticon and his supporters shortly afterwards, Boss was not amongst those who stood up for Megatron. How Bright Their Frail Deeds

As a member of the Lost Light's security team, Boss was subjected to Shadowplay by Sunder on behalf of Getaway. In addition to wiping his memories of how Rodimus and the command team left, Boss was also wired to see Getaway's authority as unquestionable, and anyone who did question it as an undercover Decepticon. Filling in the Blanks As a result, Boss was wary and trigger-happy when First Aid and the Protectobots returned to the Lost Light and seemed uncomfortable with Getaway's command. He shadowed the doctor at "Visages" and then held him and the others a gunpoint when Riptide told them the truth about the mutiny at Swerve's. The Protectobots tried to get away, but were captured and placed in recursive memory loops. Full Circle When they tried to escape again, Boss and the rest of the security team gunned them down, only letting First Aid, Riptide and Thunderclash escape. Journey's End

Boss transforms into a light blue concept car (looking not unlike some incarnations of the Batmobile), with transparent pink windows and headlights. The large turbine on the front of the vehicle mode is a powerful spring-loaded missile launcher that can pivot up and is capable of firing the three small yellow missiles (which wouldn't pass U.S. safety regulations) reasonably far. The spare missiles are stored on his rear spoiler. This engine-launcher becomes Boss's robot mode handheld cannon.

This toy was released in Japan with no notable changes as Mach Road.

Notes

He hides his secret identity fiercely.

• While the toy itself has a head with a faceplate and separate eyes, the card art mysteriously features a mostly different head with a mouth and visor. Quite a lot of toys from this era had art with head designs of dubious accuracy.
  • Interestingly, his Japanese doppelganger Mach Road's box art was altered to have a toy-accurate noggin.
• Boss appears on two Predator Megavisor slides; in robot mode on Snare's, and in car mode along with the other three small Turbomasters on Skydive's.
• Boss was the only member of the Turbomaster/Predator lineup not to appear in the catalogue story "Predator Air Attack!"
• A proposed Fun Publications BotCon exclusive was a redeco of Prime Wheeljack into Boss.
