Transformers: Reactivate is an upcoming online multiplayer game developed by Splash Damage.

It was announced on December 8, 2022 at The Game Awards via a teaser trailer that doesn't tell us a whole lot about the play style. A closed beta is planned to happen soon. Like some of the previous games, Reactivate will also utilize microtransactions for in-game purchases.

Plot

"We can rebuild him."

Per the official site, "The gravest threat to humanity has arrived. And it's already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them. All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind."

Social media pages for the game tell fans to "fight back against the Legion", indicating the name of the game's alien occupiers.

Notes

  • Transformers: Reactivate has been in development in some form or another since 2017, shortly after the end of Activision's exclusivity deal with Hasbro, though that dev cycle has been...tumultuous, let's say. Reports of the game's existence first emerged way back in 2018, when it was announced that Certain Affinity was working on a new Transformers game (tentatively known as Transformers: Impact and Transformers Online). In 2021, it was confirmed through members of the development team that the game had been retitled Transformers: Rise. It wasn't until the game's official reveal in December 2022 that the current title was revealed, along with the shift in developer, and it would be another year before any new information on the game emerged, that being the announcement of a further delay due to shifting the game engine to Unreal Engine 5. Perhaps most telling about the game's long dev cycle is the fact that a couple toys based on the game's designs were released through Hasbro Pulse in December 2023 (and initially revealed with the "Rise" branding despite the name change) before anything beyond the teaser trailer had been shown.
  • The teaser trailer featured a song cover of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive", performed by Empara Mi and dreamchild.
  • The game's cover art features the head of the Statue of Liberty with the text "ARE ALL DEAD?" scratched into it.
