Forge of Solus Prime

The Forge of Solus Prime (aka Staff of Solus) is the symbol of office of the master-artificer of the Thirteen. It is not actually a forge in the classic sense, but rather a hammer the size of which suggests that Solus Prime and her brothers towered over modern Cybertronians.

Utilizing the power of a miniature neutron star at its very heart, the Forge operates through the convergence of magic and science. It is not known just how powerful the Forge is, but it is believed that it can be used to make anything out of anything, with the possibilities only being limited by the skill and knowledge of the Prime wielding it. The Forge was used to craft many of the other artifacts of the Thirteen, and is noted to be one of the few things that could craft the core components of a Cybertronian body from scratch. On its own, the Forge is a capable tool, but only Solus Prime's integrated Creation Lathe allowed the Forge to reach its full potential and create weapons and artifacts of supernatural power. On the bright side, its sheer mass can certainly be used to pack a slagging huge whallop that's second only to the Star Saber. The thing is so heavy that only a select few have the strength to carry it without any difficulty.

The Forge was Solus Prime's personal artifact alongside the Creation Lathe. Solus used the Forge over many days and nights, crafting other artifacts such as the Cyber Caliber and Dark Energon Skins. Eventually, the Forge was taken into battle against Unicron. When Solus' body was discovered after being killed by Megatronus, the Forge could be seen lying on the ground near her hand. Solus Prime wielded the Forge as the Thirteen battled Unicron. One Shall Rise, Part 1

Before the Great War, the Forge of Solus Prime was kept in the Vaults of Iacon, but was launched into space to planet Earth where Alpha Trion hoped it would find its way to Optimus Prime. Alpha/Omega Millions of years later, its location was decoded by the amnesiac Optimus Prime. Orion Pax, Part 1 Megatron later sent Breakdown and Knock Out to retrieve it. Breakdown managed to mostly unearth the titanic hammer, but Bulkhead managed to take it before he could, using it to both incapacitate Knock Out and Breakdown and destroy the former's force field generator. Megatron's timely arrival via GroundBridge wrested the Forge from Bulkhead's servos, but upon returning to the Nemesis, the Decepticon leader found that the hammer was nothing but a cudgel unless held by a Prime. Nonetheless, Megatron considered it a victory, if only because the Forge was now far out of the reach of Optimus Prime. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2

After Optimus got hold of the Star Saber, Megatron sought a means to counter the powerful weapon. After Dreadwing reminded him of the Forge in their possession, Megatron's response was that the hammer would only work in "the hand of a Prime", giving him an idea. Returning to Cybertron, Megatron stole the arm of a deceased Prime and had it grafted to himself, the borrowed limb allowing him to use the Forge. After learning what fate had befallen his brother, Dreadwing took the Forge and presented it back to the Autobots to spite Megatron. Optimus was able to use it to turn the GroundBridge into a fully-fledged Space Bridge, and to reforge the Star Saber. Regeneration The Forge was still present in the Autobot base when it was later destroyed by the Nemesis. Darkest Hour

The Forge was pulled from the base's remains by the Decepticons, Darkmount, NV and stored aboard the Nemesis. Hoping to repair the destroyed Omega Lock, the fatally damaged Optimus sent Smokescreen to retrieve it with the phase shifter. Once Smokescreen returned with the hammer, Optimus explained both his intentions for it and the hammer's decreasing power, nominating Smokescreen as his successor. Prey After Optimus passed from his wounds, Smokescreen went against his leader's wishes, placing the Forge into Optimus's hand and restoring Optimus to life with a new body. The action resulted in the Forge's power being drained completely. Smokescreen brought the Forge with him to Hangar E, confirming to Ratchet that it had been drained of power, only for the medic to praise the youth's actions. Rebellion

The Forge was still useful as a weapon, and Ultra Magnus took it with him to Scotland to investigate Decepticon activity. Project Predacon Ultra Magnus put the hammer to good use, pounding Vehicons into walls and even landing a few good hits on Predaking. Chain of Command Magnus again employed the Forge in battle against Predaking after destroying the Predacon cloning lab. Included with Prime: Beast Hunters Voyager Class Ultra Magnus, the "Forge of Solus battle hammer" features a 5 mm handle, as well as a 5 mm peg near its hammerhead, and can be stored on his winged backpack in both modes. It is possible to recreate Predaking breaking the Forge due to the fact that the hammer's head is removable.

Platinum Edition 'Thrilling 30' Ultra Magnus comes with a different and much larger version of the "Forge of Solus Battle Hammer", which can only be held via two smaller 5 mm handles on either end of the haft. The Forge can mount onto the rear of his truck mode, or store in robot mode by clipping tightly onto the grille on his back. As the entire grille is painted, clipping the Forge onto it will inevitably result in paint chipping.

Released in the first wave of Age of the Primes Deluxe Class toys, this incarnation of Solus Prime and her Forge are inspired primarily by their appearance in the Power of the Primes series.

The head, shaft, and hilt of the hammer are all separate detachable parts, with Solus being able to wield the hilt as a separate grenade accessory. In fact, for Solus to hold the hammer, the head first has to be detached, and then the shaft slid into her hand. The whole accessory can be stored on one of her ports in vehicle mode.

Notes

• Stars are capable of forging any raw element (up to iron; anything heavier requires a supernova) under the right conditions, so it's fitting that the star-powered Forge of Solus Prime can forge anything from raw elements under the right conditions (Primehood).
