* There seems to be ongoing confusion on the proper way to transform Cerebros, as various sources have shown his legs made from the sides of Fortress Maximus's head (the horns visible and his feet made from the grills), while other sources have turned them around so that he has his own feet. The legs on the toy swivel so that either version is possible.

This article is about the Generation 1 Autobot. For the Robots in Disguise Autobot, see Cerebros (RID).
Cerebros is an Autobot Headmaster from the Generation 1 Continuity family.
Must I always strike poses wielding weapons? Can I have no peace?!

Cerebros is the robot that transforms into Fortress Maximus's head, and is itself binary bonded to Spike Witwicky.

Japanese name: Fortress (except for "The Rebirth", see also Fortress Maximus)

Fiction

Marvel Comics continuity

When Fortress Maximus was super-sized during the trip from Nebulos to Earth, Cerebros, basically an oversophisticated drone, was built to serve as an intermediate robot form between Galen and Fort Max... not much else to say, really. Trial by Fire!

Generation 1 cartoon

Voice actor: Jered Barclay (English)
Professor X! Activate Cerebros!

Cerebros was a sentient Autobot who was concerned about humanity's growing involvement in the Transformers' conflict. He was located on Cybertron in 2007, but found himself stranded on Nebulos alongside several others when Scourge unwittingly unleashed the power of the Plasma Energy Chamber. He refused to become a Headmaster or Targetmaster however, reiterating his belief that human(oid)s shouldn't endanger themselves by fighting alongside Autobots. The Rebirth, Part 1

He wandered off and got his rear handed to him by the drones guarding the abandoned Hive city, and came crawling back (literally) to the other Autobots. The Rebirth, Part 2 When Optimus Prime arrived to pick up the Autobots on Nebulos and drive them to soccer practice fly them back to Cybertron to help stop Galvatron and his all-out invasion of the planet, Cerebros decided to stay behind with Spike Witwicky and help rebuild the Hive city he discovered to become Fortress Maximus. They later arrived on Cybertron just in time to battle their Decepticon counterpart, Scorponok. After the battle was won, Cerebros asked Spike to deactivate him, not wishing to witness any more warfare. Spike showed him that Cybertron had been restored to a new Golden Age, and Cerebros broke out of his suicidal-pacifist funk. He was later assigned, along with the other binary bonded Autobots, to protect Nebulos. Cerebros said that Optimus had made him the happiest girl alive... well, something to that effect anyway. The Rebirth, Part 3

Toys

  • Fortress Maximus (Headmaster Base, 1987)
  • Japanese ID number: C-114
  • Accessories: Mini-Laser Rifle

An accessory to Fortress Maximus, Cerebros is a large Headmaster unit whose head is formed by the Spike toy. In turn, Cerebros transforms into the head of Fortress Maximus, but does not actually need Spike to do so. Cerebros can also take the shape of a "communications tower" when Maximus is in city mode.
The Japanese release of the toy also included a sword accessory for Cerebros (a.k.a "Fortress").
This mold was also used to make Super-God Masterforce Grand, Car Robots Brave and Robot Masters Zebres.

Trivia

You look strangely familiar
  • There seems to be ongoing confusion on the proper way to transform Cerebros, as various sources have shown his legs made from the sides of Fortress Maximus's head (the horns visible and his feet made from the grills), while other sources have turned them around so that he has his own feet. The legs on the toy swivel so that either version is possible.
  • In "The Rebirth, Part 3" Cerebros is depicted as having an altmode. Curiously, it is in fact Fortress Maximus' City mode. Whether Spike based the larger Transformer's design on Cerebros, or if it was a side effect of the binary bonding process is unknown.
They're actually both looking for characterization.
