Auto Assembly is an annual unofficial Transformers-based convention held usually in Birmingham, England.

The convention is an unofficial event organised by Birmingham resident Simon Plumbe and Sven Harvey and has been running since 2000.

Most commonly, guests to Auto Assembly are artists or writers from the Transformers comic books who are based locally, due to the costs for guests from America to travel over the Atlantic, however, the organisers usually secure a voice actor to come. Since Auto Assembly 2009, the first convention to be run over a weekend in celebration of the Transformers 25th anniversary, the organisers are attempting to secure two voice actors (or more) per convention.

Auto Assembly history

Auto Assembly was held in the Midlands, England, in 2000, organised primarily as a small get-together for like-minded fans who might not be able to make the journey for the then-annual conventions held in London.

The convention continued yearly except for 2007, when the organisers took a year out.

Special Guests

Though the list of special guests is nowhere near as prestigious as busier conventions, such as that official convention in America, Simon has managed to secure (sometimes multiple) appearances from, primarily, people based in the British Isles or Europe.

Convention Exclusives

Because of financial difficulties and the relative obscurity of the convention compared to BotCon, thus far there have been no exclusive toys released. However, to celebrate the 25th anniversary, the organisers teamed up with Apocalypse Comics in 2009 to release an exclusive cover for an All Hail Megatron Issue. The line art was drawn by Nick Roche, colours by Liam Shalloo and features Grimlock stomping the dealer hall while confused guests look on in awe.
