A.M.T. Video Gems was the first home video company to release Generation 1 Transformers in the UK, releasing a handful of Generation 1 Transformers videos in 1986.
They changed their name to V.I.P. Video Gems before their release of The Transformers: The Movie in 1987, and re-released their previous videos with their new name and logo in 1988. They then re-released a couple of the tapes again in 1991 under the banner of Little Gems Junior Video Club, this time with new production codes. Notably, outside of "Arrival from Cybertron", no further first season episodes were released by Video Gems, most likely season one of the series alone having been rerun several times up to 1987 on British television.
Although released by another company, the St. Michael Video Library release of "Dinobot Island" featured a box cover design provided by Video Gems, to match with their own contemporary Transformers video tapes. The original Video Gems 'grid' covers also came with uniquely-styled Robot Points that were supposedly compatible with the ones on the toys' packaging.
Video Gems tapes were distributed by Multiple Sound Distribution, who later shortened their name to MSD Video and produced their own releases under the Tempo Video brand, essentially replacing Video Gems' place in licensing "new" episodes for home video.
