The Nullification Cannon renders energon useless. It was originally the Intergon Device, developed by Monitorus of the planet Tau-Ursa to make energon more potent, but then Galvatron got his hands on it...

Soon after Monitorus completed his invention and presented it to the gathered Tau-Ursans, the planet was attacked by the Decepticons, who wanted the device for use in their eternal war against the Autobots. Galvatron easily took the creation and had his troops destroy the city before they left. He used the Intergon Device as part of the construction of his Nullification Cannon, which he immediately put to use in an attack on the Energon plant on Cybertron. With the planet's energon supplies destroyed, Galvatron believed that the Autobots would have no choice but to surrender.
