The name or term "Soundwave" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Soundwave (disambiguation).
Soundwave is a Decepticon from the Transformers: Prime continuity family.
And the people did rejoice!

Soundwave was one of Megatron's earliest followers and, many believe, instrumental to his rise. He is a master spy, using surveillance equipment and a veritable army of Minicon minions (some of which nest inside his own body) to learn everything there is to know about his allies and his enemies. He makes it his business to know exactly what is happening, where, and when and his Minicons inevitably help to turn this information to the advantage of Megatron... and Soundwave himself.

Soundwave took control of the orbital station Starscream was posted at, helping Megatron to reach the Dark Energon. He was at Megatron's side with Breakdown as they led the assault on Iacon and took the Omega Key from Zeta Prime. However, it turned out the Key was merely a signalling device for Omega Supreme, the true opener of the Omega Gate to Cybertron's core. Soundwave helped Megatron evade and overwhelm Omega.

After Cybertron had been infected, Soundwave was posted as head of Kaon's prison, and watched over Zeta's body. Optimus, Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Air Raid led an Autobot breakout and battled Soundwave's minions Frenzy, Rumble and Laserbeak. Soundwave himself sustained heavy damage leaving his post to revive and retrieve each minicon. Eventually, defeated and critically damaged, Soundwave desperately attempted to restore himself by absorbing life force from Zeta's very own spark. His attempt to fully heal was halted by Optimus, who even took a shot from the Decepticon intended to finish off Prime. Although as Soundwave and his minions fled, the damage had already been done and Zeta Prime expired moments later. Transformers: War for Cybertron

Notes

  • The Autobots first encounter with Soundwave in The Autobot Chapter 1 is a tribute to Soundwave's ability to convert energy into Energon Cubes in the G1 Cartoon series...
  • The first scene in the Autobot Chapter 2 were Lazerbeak lands on Soundwaves arm while he sits on his throne, facing away from the Autobots, is probably a homage to Frank Welker's earlier role as Dr.Claw in the Inspector Gadget cartoon... despite Frank Welker NOT voicing Soundwave this time...
  • Soundwave's jukebox seen in the end of the Autobot Chapter 2 is a homage to his original tape form from the G1 continuity...
  • On a simhilair note, he transforms into a Cybertronian Car AND a Jukebox... does that make him a Triple Changer?
  • Despite Soundwave's cold and black-mailing personality, Breakdown seems to like him, considering that he warned Soundwave of Zeta-Prime's falling pillairs...
  • His Mini-Cassette minions are named Mini-Cons in reference to the simhilare named mini transformers from the Unicron-Trilogy. Does that mean that they are made by Unicron as well?
  • Despite the Mini-Casettes, Ravage is nowhere to be seen in WFC. Oh well, perhaps he will be in "Transformers: Prime"...
