The Gyronian Sentries were Autobots and Decepticons from the Generation 1 continuity family.
"If you conspire with every person who approaches you, you're not even really conspiring with anyone, you're just doing random crap."

Gyronian Sentries are, in theory, intensely loyal to Gyronia, specifically its Sonic Canyons. Autobots who join the Gyronian Sentries are asked to abandon their appearance and trans-form as a show of their devotion. Most carry a Sorque Suspension Phaser that stuns a target by seizing his or her internals, but the growing Decepticon threat has inspired some of them to upgrade to a larger model.

So much of their processor is dedicated to following orders that it would be a simple task indeed to switch the direction of their loyalty with some sort of device.
