A force field generator is a portable device used to create a force field around the user. One was held in the Vaults of Iacon before being hidden on Earth.
Fiction

Before the Great War, the force field generator was kept in the Vaults of Iacon, but was hidden on Earth to keep it out of the wrong hands. Operation Bumblebee, Part 1 Millions of years later, its location was decoded by "Orion Pax" while on-board the Nemesis. Orion Pax, Part 2 Knock Out recovered the force field generator from a cave Operation Bumblebee, Part 1 and took it to Megatron. He later used it while fighting Optimus Prime and Arcee when he and Breakdown were trying to dig up the Forge of Solus Prime. He was almost successful in using the device to push the two Autobots off a high cliff. It was destroyed when Bulkhead smashed it with the Forge. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2
