Ironside is a method actor, who stays in character between takes. In film and television, he is best known for playing roles such as Darryl Revok in Scanners, Ham Tyler on V, Lt. Cmdr. Rick "Jester" Heatherly in Top Gun, Richter in Total Recall, Gen. Katana in Highlander II: The Quickening, Captain Oliver Hudson in seaQuest 2032, Lt. Jean Rasczak in Starship Troopers, General Sam Lane in Smallville, and many other roles.
