- Cyber Planet Keys are cosmic technology found in the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Eons ago, four Cyber Planet Keys were scattered across the universe on various planets. Each Key is a portion of Primus' lifeforce, and if gathered together and plugged into the Omega Lock, they can be used to awaken and restore him.
Fiction
Cyber Planet Keys are the physical objects containing elements of Primus' spark. They were spread to various worlds for evolutionary reasons. While each Transformer has the ability to summon a Cyber Key, they are not to be confused with Cyber Planet Keys. Cyber Keys are mearly bursts of energy summoned from the Cyber Planet Key, which acts as a host for the energies that are summoned during a "Cyber Key Power!" moment. Cyber Keys, when appearing as bursts of energy, tend to resemble the physical image of the Cyber Planet Key from which the power is summoned.

Cybertron
The four Cyber Planet keys were gifts from Primus to his creations. Created during the first age after the first defeat of Unicron, the goal of the keys was to spread Primus' essense to other fledgling planets and reformat them in a way that would create new Transformer life forms. The purpose of this was to possibly equip and protect the expanding universe from the threat of Unicron.
During the transportation of the keys to the four discovered planets(Earth, Gigantion, Velocitron, and Beast Planet), it was decided that a space bridge would need to be constructed to connect these worlds as one. During this operation, the prototype space bridge technology failed. The planets were cut off, leaving the various colonies stranded on their new homeworlds.

Unique Keys: There are keys within the story that do not resemble any Cyber Planet Key host. Keys such as Vector Prime's is powered by time itself, and shares the same essense that comprises Vector Prime's mighty sword. Other keys, such as that of Optimus Prime and Megatron are the effects of their unique powers (Unicron's spark, Prime's Matrix) causing the Earth key influence to change or become greater.
The Fate of the Four Keys
Each of the four keys were eventually recovered by the Autobots, and once combined with the Omega Lock, returned power to Primus. Primus quickly sprang into action and sealed the Unicron Singularity, using the Ark cannon.
At the end of the Cybertron series, a new project was embarked upon which would lead to the four keys being transported to four new planets, creating a system of eight planets and Cybertron.
