The Five Dark Epochs were the tumultuous periods of the Great War that all threatened to bring the Transformer race to extinction. The Five Dark Epochs were, in order:
- The Uprising: Megatron declares war on the Senate.
- The Exodus: The neutrals departing Cybertron.
- The Remote Age: The war spreading out to the stars, to the point Optimus Prime and Megatron sealed themselves in omniglobes to track the progress of every battlefield.
- The Cataclysm: Thunderwing's experiment that transformed him into a powerful, raging beast that required the Autobots and Decepticons to unite against him, but at the cost of devastating Cybertron completely.
- The Surge: An all-out assault on every Autobot outpost, ordered by Megatron after abandoning the infiltration protocols.
