Octus (G1)

Octus is a Decepticon from the Marvel portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

All those arms, yet he's still too lazy to pour oil in his cup.

Octus is a member of the ruling Triumverate who seized control of the Decepticons after the (second) death of Straxus. He is arrogant, lazy, and believes in a rather complacent method of Decepticon rule on Cybertron. Still, he can be pretty funny when he's poking fun at other Decepticon leaders.

Octus appeared exclusively in the UK portion of the Marvel Comics continuity.

An unspecified amount of time after the (second) death of Straxus, a triumvirate of Decepticons, ingeniously calling themselves the Triumverate, came to power as the new rulers of Cybertron. Legonis, Octus and Seizer ruled together from their palace at the city Helex, sharing a three-seater throne. Octus had the center seat.

As rulers of Cybertron, the Triumverate were too lazy for active aggression against the Autobots. Instead they spent their time enjoying arena fights between Autobot prisoners and powerful Decepticon warriors (such as Quake), even contemplating pitting Decepticon against Decepticon should they run out of prisoners, rather than going out to get more.

But seriously, folks. EXTERMINATE HIM!

When Straxus-Megatron (it's complicated) arrived on Cybertron with Ravage in tow, he was horrified with the state of things and challenged the Triumverate's rule. Octus baited Megatron, calling him the Decepticon cause's "most celebrated LOONY!"

Legonis shoved Megatron into the area (of the arena), where cannon-boy bashed up a few Decepticons (including Quake, the schmuck) before making a speech about Decepticon values. Realising that they hated not going out and killing Autobots, the Decepticons turned on the Triumverate for being lazy bozos.

The Triggercons shot the Triumverate in the backs, killing them. Octus was blasted by Crankcase, blowing his head off. The Fall and Rise of the Decepticon Empire.

Wings Universe

Wings Universe is based on the Generation 1 cartoon, but deviates from it in cosmetic ways and continuity points.

Octus was one of the Decepticon Warlords dealt with by the Autobot Elite Guard. A Team Effort

Beast Wars: Uprising

Councilor Octus was a member of the Builder Assembly. After Lio Convoy started a rebellion against the Builders, Lio Convoy's mentor Eject was condemned to death by the Assembly. When Eject was brought before the Assembly in Iacon to appeal his sentence, Octus raged at him for all that had happened, but Ratbat calmed him down and called attention to the fact that Eject had the guts to appear before the Assembly. Eject then explained that he had a potential solution: clone Lio Convoy's energon matrix-infused CNA to create a mighty army of clones to counter the rebellion. The Assembly approved. Notes

• Octus (Octavius), Legonis (Lepidus), and Seizer (Caesar) are a parody of (or perhaps tribute to) the ruling Triumvirate of Rome after the death of Julius Caesar.
• Octus is pretty unique in form as a Transformer. He has a six-armed robot mode and transforms into... well, actually he never transforms in the fiction, but according to his co-creator Lee Sullivan his alt mode is based on a pre-existing design. Sullivan had this to say in an email to the Obscure Transformers website:

Thought you might like to know that one of the Tri... whatevers I designed (Oct-something-or-other) was supposed to transform (snik-snork-shnap-shnoop) into one of Doctor Who's Daleks, which I've also been known to draw from time to time.
