IDW Generation 1 continuity

Long ago, the Light God Primus created the miracle planet of Cybertron, after which he split his essence into five avatars. These avatars became a pantheon of deities called the Guiding Hand. Epistemus embodied knowledge personified, standing alongside his brethren, consisting of: Solomus, Adaptus, Mortilus, and Primus himself. Together, they brought about the first Golden Age of Cybertron until it was shattered by Mortilus, who desired to strike against the universe. His dissension caused Cybertron to shudder and its first moon to be torn asunder. In the battle against Mortilus, Epistemus was stripped bare and turned into a brain module. Mortilus would be defeated, though the Guiding Hand was forever shattered. However, their legacy lived on in their gifts to future generations of Cybertronians. Epistemus's gift would be that of intellect, which aided his inheritors: the Knights of Cybertron. You, Me, and Other Revelations

Ask Vector Prime

Epistemus was one of Vector Prime's siblings. Vector reminisced about his intellect and unconventional way of thinking. Competing memories tell him that Epistemus had been long departed when Vector was around, while in other memories he never existed at all.

In some of Vector Prime's memories during the Thirteen's time in Greece on ancient Earth, Epistemus used a holomatter avatar which inspired the myth of Demeter.

Notes

  • Epistemus's name appears to be based on the Greek Επιστήμη "epistí̱mi̱", meaning knowledge, science, profession, and understanding.
