Wing (G1)

Wing is an Autobot from the Victory portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Hi, I'm Wing McClure. You might know me from a dozen Armada episodes or several million Cartoon Network commercials.

Wing (ウイング Uingu) is the leader of the Autobot group known as the Multiforce. This also makes him half of the combiner duo Wingwaver and the head module of Landcross. Wing is practically indistinguishable from Wingwaver by personality except that he is possibly even more gutsy. Wing has shown no hesitation in facing six-to-one odds. Wing is almost always the top half of Wingwaver and gives the duo form his dashing good looks. Where he gets his winning personality might be more of a mystery.

Micromaster

While testing out stealth technology, Wing and the rest of the Multiforce stumbled through a dimensional rift that brought them years into the past. There, Micromasters battled over Mount St. Hillary, where Optimus Prime, Megatron, and their troops slumbered within the Ark. He soon introduced himself to the Autobot Micromasters, but before he could introduce the rest of his team, the Autobots had to head out to meet a Decepticon threat. He combined with Waver to form Wingwaver and helped taking on the Decepticon Sixbuilders. Wing then combined with the rest of the Multiforce into Landcross to send Berserker Sixwing packing. The Multiforce followed the normal flow of time to return to their native period, making sure to not interfere with events they knew had to transpire. To this end, they avoided the other Transformers and explored the Skomiloch Territories and clashed with the Predators. Their journey enabled them to be able to stop the Praetorian from using the corrupted Reconfiguration Matrix to rewrite all robotic life in the Vega Sector into loyal Scrapmetal. Ask Vector Prime

Victory manga

The Multiforce was summoned to Earth by Star Saber and battled Dinoking as Landcross. After defeating Dinoking, Landcross separated in order to swarm Deathsaurus with superior numbers. Magnificent! Our Friend, Star Saber!

After having lost a battle to Deathsaurus as Landcross, and being subsequently rescued by Star Saber, Wing helped rescue the animals hurt by the forest fire caused by the Decepticon Emperor. Great Turn-Around! Star Saber

Wing also fought against the Decepticons inside their space base as it was raining down meteors onto the Earth. The war ended peacefully with a truce between both factions. Heroic! The Victory War

Wing transforms into a white and red jet fighter of unknown design, and comes with a gun that plugs into his fists or the top of his jet mode. He was packaged with his partner, Waver, with whom he can combine to form Wingwaver.

Notes

• Wing's character model frequently showed up as a generic character in the Armada cartoon (where it probably got more screentime than it ever did in Victory). More pertinently, Wing's dramatic run-and-transform sequence seen in "First Encounter" was used extensively in Cartoon Network advertising and featured in the original Toonami "intro" for Armada, inexplicably making him a familiar-if-entirely-unrecognized sight on American television for Armada's duration on TV.
