The Ice Age Wars is a sub-conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, waged on Earth during ia pre-human 'ice age'. To survive in the cold, they take alternate forms based on quite random the most powerful local creatures!

The combatants in the Ice Age Wars fought brutally and tirelessly in the increasingly hostile environment. Eventually fighting became impractical as the local temperatures continued to drop and reserves of fuel ran low. A team of Eukarian explorers under Domitius Major made a detour to Earth to pick up energon supplies. Unfortunately for them, they were shot down by Shockwave to protect his experiments and the last thing they saw before crashing was a stray transmission from Optimus Prime. This gave Shockwave the idea of making the Transformers think they were Optimus Prime and other Cybertronians, to see what would happen.
