We.
Are the Video Gems.

A.M.T. Video Gems was the first home video company to release Generation 1 Transformers videos in the UK, releasing a handful of tapes in 1986.

They changed their name to V.I.P. Video Gems before their release of The Transformers: The Movie in 1987, and re-released their previous videos with their new name and logo in 1988. They then re-released a couple of the tapes again in 1991 under the banner of Little Gems Junior Video Club, this time with new production codes.

Video Gems tapes were distributed by Multiple Sound Distribution, who later shortened their name to MSD Video and produced their own releases under the Tempo Video brand, essentially replacing Video Gems' place in licensing "new" episodes for home video.

Releases

Little Gems Junior Video Club

  • J1350 — The Transformers — Arrival from Cybertron (1991)
  • J1358 — The Transformers — The Key to Vector Sigma (1991)

Notes

  • "Arrival from Cybertron" was the only Video Gems release to be taken from the first season. This is possibly due to the fact that season one was available to watch for free, as it was still being re-run on British television as late as 1987.
  • The original Video Gems 'grid' covers each came with a Robot Point token printed on the reverse. These tokens were supposedly compatible with the ones on the toys' packaging, despite being of a design unique to these video covers.
  • Video Gems also provided the cover for the 1986 St. Michael Video Library release of "Dinobot Island"/"The Revenge of Bruticus", using the familiar 'grid' design to match their own contemporary Transformers video tapes. This one, however, did not include a Robot Point token.
