A Transformer's Figure Alteration System is responsible for controlling the transformation between their robot and alternate modes. Presumably such systems utilize transformation cogs.

Figure Alteration System appeared exclusively in the UK portion of the Marvel Comics continuity.

According to Blaster, one of the side effects of Nucleon exposure is that a Transformer's Figure Alteration Systems are converted into Energy Storage Reactors causing the loss of any transformation ability. Issue #300 letters section
