Tim and Spike were in special forces together and got so close that when Simmons had a son, he made Spike the kid's godfather. A Second Chance at Eden When the Decepticons kicked off their invasion of Earth by assaulting New York City, the military was called in to help evacuate the city. Tim Simmons was among the soldiers who organized the evacuation from the city's underwater tunnels... until the gigantic Devastator collapsed the tunnels to cut off any escape routes, killing Tim and the evacuees.
Three years later, Spike Witwicky would avenge his friend and prevent any further deaths at Devastator's hands by killing one of the combiner's components, Scrapper. Scrapper
