Sitterson's career explodes, but it wasn't Skywarp's fault.

Scarlett's Strike Force (formerly known as G.I. Joe: Unmasked) is a limited comic series from IDW Publishing, which integrated G.I. Joe with M.A.S.K.

Puzzled as to why there's an article for this G.I. Joe/M.A.S.K. comic here on TFWiki? Because believe it or not, Skywarp is a member of the Joe team and appears in this series!

Scarlett's Strike Force was announced as debuting December 2017 in the wake of First Strike, and returning writer Aubrey Sitterson promised it would have "threats that lean fully into the weird sci-fi/fantasy aspects of G.I. Joe" (and feature Action Man toy "The Intruder"[1].) Instead of "Crown Jewel", the new over-hyped tagline is "The Best Action Comic Ever!"

Unfortunately the comic was cancelled before the first issue was even published (see notes), ending on a cliffhanger with issue #3.[2] A short coda for the series, entitled "Last Stand," was published a few months later as a back-up strip in Transformers: Unicron #2.

Creative team

Collections

  • Scarlett's Strike Force TPB (May 2, 2018) ISBN 1684052378 / ISBN 978-1684052370

Notes

  • This was originally going to be called G.I. Joe: Unmasked.
  • Sitterson had made comments about 9/11 remembrance that had not gone down well with the online G.I. Joe fanbase, so IDW told him to keep schtum and not promote the comic for a few weeks. They then canceled the book due to low sales, and totally not Sitterson's remarks.[3]
  • Sitterson eventually published his scripts and notes for the canceled issues on Patreon.
