The Control harness is a piece of Cybertronian technology following the era of the Pax Cybertronia and serves as a complex interface device that allows the user to control the information, data and commands of an entire planet.

After the Beast Wars, Megatron managed to return to Cybertron before Optimus Primal where he released a transformation virus that inflicted the planet. Once this was accomplished, he began capturing the sparks of the inhabitants and using their bodies to create his army of Vehicon drones. This was with the intention of leading the entire planet under a single will which was his own and creating the perfect technological society that was free of organic taint or conflict from individuality. From the Council Citadel, Megatron resided inside his control harness where he directed his entire army of Vehicons and controlled the planet itself. When Primal finally emerged on the planet, Megatron used his Vehicon drones to attack the Maximals and eventually came into confrontation with his nemesis himself. During the fight, Optimus managed to envoke feelings of rage within Megatron, leading him to expose that he was still in possession of a beast mode and allowing the Maximals to escape. During his continued conflict with the Maximals, they managed to attack one of Megatron's Vehicon factories. This led to a skirmish where a number of Tank Drones went out of control. As a result, Megatron attempted to take control of the drones at the same time when Rattrap was doing the same. A resulting feedback traveled through the power cables that damaged Megatron within his control harness. This saw a complete system failure and power cut throughout the sector. Megatron managed to bide his time until he was repaired, whereupon the harness allowed him to regain control of the planet. The Weak Component

Following this event, Megatron's body was separated into its mechanical and organic constituents, though his spark resided within his organic half that became known as Noble. Seeking to regain his former glory, he masqueraded as a newly transformed Maximal and befriended Nightscream. He used him and his allies to enter the Council Citadel and emerged into the throne room when Rattrap was attempting to access the control harness. Megatron as Noble pulled the Maximal out from the machine and attempted to interface with it, only for nothing to happen. It was then he concluded that the harness did not recognize him, as he was now an entirely organic being. Thus, Megatron used the spark extractors to forcibly remove his spark which entered into the control harness and possessed the citadel, allowing him to activate the Grand Mal. Prometheus Unbound
