Frances Louise McDormand (born June 23, 1957) is an American actress. She is best known for her Oscar-winning roles as Marge Gunderson in Fargo (alongside Peter Stormare), Mildred Hayes in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Fern in Nomadland. She has also appeared in such films as Almost Famous, North Country, Blood Simple, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Darkman.
She is married to screen writer and director Joel Coen.
