The Challenge Events in the Angry Birds Transformers mobile game offered players the chance to unlock new characters, unique Accessories, and regular Accessories at a reduced "cost" by destroying key targets in special stages.
In this first competition, the top three players that smashed the most pumpkins in regular stages each day would get Gems, while all other players would get 10000 Coins. Nemesis Prime Bird was not part of the competition, but was available as an in-app purchase during the Halloween season.
Unlock various prizes, including exclusive Pilgrim hats for select characters, through single-player challenges by popping flying pigs dressed as turkeys. Rodimus wasn’t unlock able during the competition.
After the event, several Black Friday deals popped up, from at-the-time cosmetic accessory bundles to discounted Gem packages to the Fire Bundle that contained the brand new character Rodimus at a low price!
Holiday Challenges! (December 2015)
The first ever Challenge Event combines the competition and challenges, and introduces Tokens and the battery system. Unlock Shockwave Pig and a host of holiday-themed Accessories for various other characters by destroying holiday-themed objects. This is the very first event to have event unlock characters.
Boss Pig's head has been commandeered by the Eggbots and equipped with really powerful missiles. Defeating Boss Pig and flying Pigs earns points for Tokens. Prizes are various prior-existing accessories, with the new Autobird Silver as Windblade as the ultimate prize.
After this event, there is a chance that Boss Pig could pop up uninvited and unexpected in future events, carrying a real risk if your characters aren't suited for taking him on.
Pop as many Pigs as possible! Each day a new sub-set of Pig (balloon-head, flyers, etc) are worth 10 points a pop instead of the usual 1. All of the prizes are accessories for Lockdown and Energon Lockdown, including the event-exclusive Cannon and Rangefinder for regular Lockdown.
This event brings some significant new changes: players can now take two characters instead of an Energonicon, and points are gained only through energon cubes (10 points per cube) and priority targets. Using a character from the currently shown bonus squad will increase your points at the end of a stage by the shown percentage, which could be 25% ,50%, 75%, 100%, or even 150%, depending on the squad. Bonus Squads are changed every four hours. As for the prizes, Shockwave was available again for those who may have missed him the first time around, along with a handful of non-exclusive accessories for the Target: 2006 squad.
Tying in with Rovio's theatrical film, The Angry Birds Movie, this Challenge (along with all the other current Rovio games at the time) promotes the release of the big blockbuster with a new movie-themed app icon, loading screen, and point-earning smashable movie tickets and Billy signs. Prizes are a second chance at Epic Optimus and exclusive Coconut Helmets for Autobirds and Cowboy Hats for Deceptihogs.
There are some small changes for this event: two bonus squad characters are required to get the full point boost. For example, using one seeker will only give a 37% bonus, while using both seekers will give the full 75% bonus. Point values are now 1 per popped pig, 5 per Mortar Tower, and varied for priority targets. The prizes are Heatwave's unique accessories, but the real prize is the Gem packages that would be normally be only available as in-app purchases.
Back to one Transformer with an Energonicon, with points obtained only from current challenge targets. The prizes are the new Acid Storm and his Nemesis and Kremzeek accessories.
Not one, but three new Seeker characters are introduced, at a whopping 4800 tokens each, so good luck unlocking more than one without spending a lot of Gems. The player can try out Skywarp, Starscream, and Sunstorm in the events. Points are obtained from smashing Seeker color-coded blocks, and 10 points for each current challenge block.
Starting from this Challenge Event, missing Tokens could be bought with Gems, though the exchange rate would vary. Any Accessories available with Tokens in these events also had their normal Gem prices slashed 50% for the duration of the event.
An event to get various Deceptihog accessories, including brand new Armada horns for both Megatron Pigs! Both a select Deceptihog and a select Energonicon give score bonuses.
You've got the chance to earn Rodimus and his accessories in this event celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, along with Prowl and Bluestreak. (For those who haven't obtained them from missions, apparently.) Watch out for Unicron Pig shooting flaming piggies from his snout! Rodimus is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked, and his health is automatically filled up after every run.
After this Event, Unicron Pig could pop up unannounced in future Challenge Events, just like Boss Pig. In fact, you could get one right after the other! Ugh.
The chance to unlock the new character Ratchet and his unique accessories, along with Arcee and Airachnid (if not unlocked through missions yet). Points are awarded for destroying a specific block type each day. Ratchet is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked, and the best part is his health is automatically filled up after every run, since he's not in your stable yet! Abuse this!
September ~ November 2016
Just before the next Event, Daily Quests were introduced. These mini-challenges, 8 per day, could offer Tokens as prizes, giving you the chance to earn even more than the Event would allow normally per day... it's all the luck of the draw there, though, as to what the Quests are and how much, if any!
Oh, and also? At this point, they go absolutely nuts with the number of Events they run, sometimes with a mere 24 hours between the end of one's Token Exchange and the start of an all-new, un-advertised Event.
Another chance to unlock Arcee and Airachnid, and their unique accessories, as well as another shot at Shockwave and his Accessories. Points are awarded for destroying a specific block type each day.
The focus is on Accessories for Bumblebee and High Octane Bumblebee, but also another chance to unlock Epic Optimus. The lack of downtime between events at this point has gotten ridiculous.
Take a single character into the stage and shoot at specific targets. No Energonicons, no backups, but still a (hefty) bonus for using someone from the suggested Squad. The prize here is new character Ricochet and his accessories. Ricochet is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked.
Another chance to unlock Bluestreak and Prowl, as well as Windblade, and their unique accessories. Back to two swappable characters and an Energonicon, and blasting blocks of a target color for bonus points.
From this point forward, the scoring system changed slightly. Previously, you earned 1 point for every non-target Pig (and 5 for Mortar Towers), but from here on you also earned 1 point for every block destroyed and every piece of cyberformed scenery blasted. Depending on the Squad bonus, a good mass-destruction character might actually be better than using a bonus-earning character sometimes!
Also from this point, every event has limited-time character bundles and gem sales. (yes, for real money). Any characters and accessories you'd already unlocked are replaced by a cache of Tokens equal to their original Token cost.
Two years of Angry Birds Transformers, Who would have thought? Daily targets are worth premium points, and this time both Pigs and all blocks are worth 1 point apiece! Two swappable bots and an Energonicon, with point bonuses for picking the right ones. The big prize is Drift, who costs a whopping 7500 Tokens, but is free to play during the event. Yeah, you get nine days, but man. On top of that, you have the chance to unlock all of the prior event-only characters (but not Arcee, Airachnid, Prowl or Bluestreak, since they're also unlockable via Missions).
Unfortunately, this Event also came with a major update that severely buffed the durability of all of the enemies in the game against direct attacks, making gameplay much, much harder (but was reverted later).
Character Bundles were also available for sale (yes, for real money) during the course of the event, starting with Drift as part of a two-day deal, but soon moving on to the other past unlockables, one per day.
Using only the Prime birds (including Sentinel and Rodimus), go solo into a stage (no Energonicon either!) and pop the target Pigs for extra points. Squad bonuses still apply. You also get to try out Nemesis Prime Bird free, but not unlock him. The prizes are Epic Optimus and Rodimus and their accessories. The first several hours of the event were unplayable, as the game would crash after playing Heatwave's cutscene. Oops.
Halloween and Nemesis Prime return! Two bots, one Energonicon, and a load of Halloween-themed stuff litters the stages, and every day one type of decor is worth extra points. Astrotrain and the Flying Pigs are decked out like witches too! Nemesis Prime, Skywarp and their accessories are the main prizes. There is also an assortment of Halloween-themed hats at 1000 Tokens a pop, every one giving a 10% Damage bonus to the wearer, and not restricted to a single character. While most characters can only wear one to three of the eight available hats (some can't wear any of them), buying one hat unlocks it for every viable character, which in some cases means you just got over a dozen Accessories in one shot! Now that's a deal!
An all-Decepticon event, with a single character and Energonicon blasting the target color blocks each day. Prizes include regular Starscream, his Accessories (once/if unlocked), and the unique Accessories for Bludgeon and Brawl.
Continuing to tempt players to part with their money, The game offered the "Special Event Bundle" during the course of the event. it contained 250 gems, Bludgeon's Sentinel accessory, and 2500 Tokens, all for the low price of $5.99.
An all-jet-Pig event, two swappable Pigs and no Energonicons. Any Seeker Pigs you have not unlocked are offered as free-to-play characters, so there's that at least! Destroy the key targets for extra points. Acid Storm is this Event's unlockable, as are the special Accessories for him, Thundercracker and Energon Starscream.
The exact same Acid Storm Bundle available in the "Two-Year Celebration" event could be purchased during the course of this event, at $24.99, for those who may be really impatient or unable to play the Challenge Event for whatever reason.
And yet, only at most the third-oddest thing to ever happen in official Transformers product.
Be thankful that you have to chance to unlock Sunstorm, accessories for most of the Energon-fueled characters (not Energon Soundwave and Starscream since they got prizes in prior events), and Pilgrim Hats. Only the "Energon" versions of characters are available to use, but Energonicon bonuses are back. Targets are primarily Pigs, including the Flying Pigs who've dressed up like cooked turkeys for the event.
This event's "Special Event Bundle" contained a minimalist 150 gems, 10000 coins and 1000 tokens for $14.99. But from Black Friday, Dead End and several other character bundles were made available for sale, with new offers every 8 hours.
December 2016 ~ March 2017
From this point on, the point bonuses become... let's politely call it "complicated". Bonuses are ONLY given to characters who have been "Promoted", which you do by spending Sparks earned through Daily Challenges (or bought in Challenge Events). The higher their rank, the more bonus % they earn, and that bonus is granted any time they're used in an event. Moreover, if the character is part of the Squad Bonus selected for the entire duration of the event, their normal bonus will be multiplied (x2 to x4 depending on the event). Energonicon bonuses are gone.
Also, Spark Bundles have joined the rotation of daily special event IAPs, ranging from $5.99 to $39.99, depending on the amount of gems and Spark offered.
Prize Accessories: Wheeljack, Ricochet, Skywarp, Windblade, 10 different holiday hats
IAPs: Character Bundles every two days
Notes: Promoted characters' bonus is now tripled.
The official Angry Birds Transformers Facebook Page started posting Challenge event announcements starting from "Happy Holidays!", so check there for regular updates since we may not able to to list every single challenge event here manually. Although now as of September 2020 they seem to have stopped for some strange reason.
Notes: A new popup event notice upon startup is introduced. Unfortunately, this event also introduced a series of significant bugs: first, an update introduced on the last day of the Chinese New Year event made the entire game temporarily inaccessible! But at least it fixed the explosive rounds...
Notes: First time an event has been re-run with the same event name.
April 2017 ~ June 2017
Looking for another thing to spend tokens on? You can now buy instant upgrades for characters in live events, even overpowering them if at max level! Higher level upgrades cost nearly as much as new characters though. In order to make these 50-8000 token upgrades achievable, the daily challenge token amounts have been increased up to 2500, although reaching the final milestones are impossible to reach without oodles of gems.
Also, Spark from daily quests have been reduced from 500 to 400, possibly because you can get 100 or more from the Sparkrun.
IAPs: Spark Starter, Gem package (standard IAPs that would be available in all subsequent events), Nemesis Prime Bundle - Nemesis Prime/Sparks/Gems/Jetpack
Notes: Double max challenge tokens (1100 instead of 550)
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Sunstorm, Starscream, Skywarp (again so soon?)
Prize Accessories: Sunstorm, Starscream, Skywarp
IAPs:
Notes: JARSU (Just Another Rovio Screw Up): The first two days only registered tokens earned from daily quests and leaderboards in the Token Exchange. Rovio later provided 2000 compensation tokens.
Notes: Bonus squad promoted characters get a x4 multiplier starting from this event. This event also introduced new damage blocks - these containers are found across competition runs and give the characters a temporary increase in power.
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Grey Slam Grimlock, Rodimus
Prize Accessories: Grey Slam Grimlock, Rodimus
IAPs:
Notes: JARSU: Grey Slam Grimlock's accessories are all marked off as owned, whether you have them or not.
June 2017 ~ November 2017
With the hard update pushed in early June, the maximum promotion bonus has been increased from 105% up to 140%. Promotion bonuses continue to increase from 110% (3500 sparks) up to 140% (6500 sparks) and are a purple/amethyst color using the same stripe/star icons.
Notes: Return of tough blocks! They're worth as much as stone blocks! This event was also unusually long, lasting 8 days of competition + 1 day of token exchange.
Notes: Sharktihogs have finally returned to Beach levels (instead of Cobalt Valley exclusively); a JARSU prevented daily leaderboard prizes from being rewarded (they were rewarded but didn't add to each player's overall total to be used in the token exchange)
Notes: Players started the event with the tokens earned from the leaderboard of the "Duunnn Dunnn..." event (they weren't properly awarded during competition days due to a bug in the game). Unicron also appears in competition runs at a much higher rate than usual.
IAPs: Various token bundles with different quantities of sparks and gems
Notes: New green blocks (recolored blue glass) adds +5 points while red blocks (recolored gray bricks) subtracts -5 points to each run's scores. Within the first 24 hours, an update reduced the point thresholds for tokens by half due to player complaints of difficulty and possible color blindness to others.
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Rodimus, High Octane Bumblebee, Bumblebee
Prize Accessories: Rodimus, High Octane Bumblebee, Bumblebee
IAPs: Various token bundles with different quantities of sparks and gems
Notes: New poison TNT boxes deals (subtracts) 1 heart regardless of transformer's level (Energon characters loses 2 hearts, due to their double damage taken nature)
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Heatwave, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime
Prize Accessories: Heatwave (new - Helmet, Trilby), Ratchet, Bumblebee (new - Headband, Pirate Hat), Optimus Prime
IAPs:
Notes: The first and last days of competition had glass blocks as targets, but throughout the entire competition ALL types of blocks were turned into glass blocks (also including some terrain items).
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Nemesis Prime, Epic Optimus, Ultimate Optimus Prime
Prize Accessories: Nemesis Prime (new - Star Saber) + 2 Halloween Hats, Epic Optimus + 4 Halloween Hats, Ultimate Optimus Prime (new - Matrix of Spark, Jetpack, Power Master) + 2 Halloween Hats
IAPs:
Notes: The Halloween skin has been applied to the game upon the start of this event. When the competition first started, Ultimate Optimus Prime's Matrix of Spark was actually the HIQ accessory.
November 2017 ~ January 2018
A hard game update at the start of November introduced a new area on the map that had to be unlocked with a new resourced called Plasma. Plasma was available in different parts of the game (Daily Quests and Crates) as well as during competitions. In the Token Exchange are of competitions, players may make a one-time purchase using 2500 tokens to exchange for 1000 Plasma. The 1000 Plasma exchange remains available to a player until they have unlocked the new Caves area or disappears after they've made the purchase once.
Prize Accessories: Energon Grimlock (new - Apron), Smokescreen, Prowl, Bluestreak
IAPs:
Notes: The Thanksgiving skin has been applied to the game upon the start of this event. The token reward tiers/levels have been changed such that the tiers are closer in points but the payout is only 50 tokens for the first 20 tiers (100/150/200/250/300 for the final 5 tiers).
Prize Accessories: Trypticon (new - Top Hat, Monocle), Shockwave, Lockdown (new - Fireman Hat, Cannon, Rangefinder)
IAPs:
Notes: Return of purple implosive TNT in this competition! The token reward tiers/levels have been reverted back to the original (pre-Thanksgiving event) payouts.
Notes: The Christmas skin has been applied to the game upon the start of this event and Christmas accessories are available within crates. Unicron and Helipig Boss were available only on the first and last competition days.
Prize Accessories: Scorponok, Barricade (new - Clips), Energon Galvatron (new - Ace of Spades), Energon Lockdown (new - Frenzy)
IAPs: Spark Starter - 6500 Sparks/250 Gems ($11)
Notes: Similar to the "Good Block, Evil Block" event earlier in the year, new white blocks (recolored blue glass) adds +5 points while black blocks (recolored gray bricks) subtracts -2 points to each run's scores.
Prize Accessories: Elita One (new), Chromia, Windblade
IAPs: Various versions of Elita One Bundle was available (varied by player and mobile device platform): 500 Gems (Elita One/1000 Sparks/10000 Coins), 1000 Gems (Elita One/8000 Sparks/Pistol), 2000 Gems (Elita One/30000 Sparks/Pistol), 5000 Gems (Elita One/100000 Sparks/Pistol)
Notes: The various "Elita One Bundle" listed above allowed players to use existing Gems from their account (as opposed to real world currency) to purchase the items in the bundle.
February 2018 ~ April 2018
With the hard update pushed in early February, the maximum promotion bonus has been increased from 140% up to 175%. Promotion bonuses continue to increase from 140% (6500 sparks) up to 175% (13500 sparks) and are a red/ruby color using the same stripe/star icons.
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Energon Soundwave, Blaster, Energon Optimus Prime
Prize Accessories: Energon Soundwave, Blaster, Energon Optimus Prime
IAPs: Special Event Bundle - 3000 Tokens/250 Gems ($15)
Notes: While this event is a re-run, it is only a repeat by name only. Previous competitions of this name (January 2016, February 2016) had different prizes/accessories and ran for different durations.
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Epic Optimus Prime, High Octane Bumblebee, Bumblebee
Prize Accessories: Epic Optimus Prime (new - Star Saber), High Octane Bumblebee (new - Steeljaw), Bumblebee
IAPs:
Notes: Competition thresholds for token tiers per day were much lower than typical until day 2 when an update was pushed to iOS devices that restored them to the usual value (Android users benefited from this bug throughout the whole event).
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Sunstreaker (new), Sideswipe, Red Alert
Prize Accessories: Sunstreaker, Sidesswipe, Red Alert
IAPs: Various versions of Sunstreaker Bundle was available (varied by player and mobile device platform): 500 Gems (Sunstreaker/2500 Sparks/10000 Coins), 1000 Gems (Sunstreaker/9500 Sparks/Cannon), 2000 Gems (Sunstreaker/33000 Sparks/Cannon), 5000 Gems (Sunstreaker/100000 Sparks/Cannon/Pistol)
Notes: All competition runs play in "fast-forward"! "Slowdown" gates in the Cobalt Plateaus briefly return speed to normal. The various "Sunstreaker Bundle" listed above allowed players to use existing Gems from their account (as opposed to real world currency) to purchase the items in the bundle.
Notes: Only "seekers" are usable. Acid Storm & Sunstorm are available as "free" playable characters at level 15 if not already unlocked, despite not being involved in the token exchange options. Unlockables Skywarp and Starscream are not available as free play options, though.
Notes: The first Challenge Event to use the Caves levels as possible runs. Strongarm continues the trend of new characters purchasable with Gems, likely to be the norm going forward.
Notes: All normal blocks and many destructibles are changed to the "Target" block type, enabling the racking up huge scores.
April 2018 ~ July 2019
As this section was created long after the events in it ended, it will have just the events and dates, as not all of them have a determinable bonus squad, prize characters, etc.
There was an event between Drag Strip and Soundblaster, however, it caused a few problems for editing. The events listed will now say they started on a Friday and ended on Thursday as that's what the Facebook posts say
Prize/Upgrade Characters: Ionstorm, Nemesis Hot Rod, Warpath, Cosmos
Prize Accessories: Ionstorm, Nemesis Hot Rod, Warpath, Cosmos
IAPs:
Notes: Fast forward mode
November 2020 ~ June 2021
After the event "Chromia" events where simply being named after whatever the primary bot was presumably done to simply it down for the development team. The only exceptions are war themed events starting from season 7s "Fatal Fury" event.
Notes: Only Autobird tfs can be used, implosion tnt blocks

Try a Bomb for free! ...erm, let us rephrase that...
In almost every event, you earn 1 point for every Pig you pop or block you break, plus the larger point totals for bringing down Boss Pig or Unicron Pig, whether they are the choice target for the day or not.
Challenge Events focused on new characters often allow you to play as those characters for free if you have not already unlocked them. While their Level will be set (typically Level 8, but sometimes 15!) and they won't have any augmenting Accessories or gain Squad bonuses (even if they're part of the current bonus Squad!), there is the advantage that their health restores to full each time you take them into a Challenge level, sparing you some ad-watching time... even if they were knocked out!
Sadly, Tokens earned but not spent in one Event are lost at the end of the Token Exchange period following the Event, and will not carry over into the next one. Exient reps have said they are considering allowing players to "bank" Tokens between events, but no action has been taken on this yet.
New events on android briefly had their events glitched with the name "!missing string!" for some reason. The error was patched in Version 2.10.0.
