Space Wars is a play-pretend game played by human children, at least in Northern California.

The Spacehikers were playing Space Wars with toy guns when they became embroiled in a battle between Defensor and Bruticus. At the battle's conclusion, they used a mode locked Blast Off to travel into outer space. Sammy Wainwright noted that it was a better experience than Space Wars. Child's Play
