:::::"Scylla" is used in the ''Beast Wars Sourcebook''. Like Deathsaurus and Elephorca, it's the official English name, for better or worse. ... well that's unexpected. Unless Dr. Sigma's Japanese Bio & Tech Spec Archive entry on God Neptune[1] has a typo... Scylla's name isn't the same as the monster of Greek mythology. Her name is written as スキュウレ - su-kyu-u-re. The Greek monster's name[2] is written スキュラ - su-kyu-ra. Additionally, there's only slightly less than 300 hits for su-kyu-u-re on Google[3], which all seem to be related to the BWII character - whereas there are 71,500 hits[4] for su-kyu-ra. I guess her name was always MEANT to be a Rhinoxization of Scylla, but, uh, nobody noticed?
I don't know what a more accurate transliteration of her name's katakana would be. Greek to Japanese to English is giving me a headache. We should probably have some kind of note about this, though. --Monzo 11:52, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've noticed about this. But, since I don't know how to romanize "スキュウレ", I never mention about moving the page. Anyway, her name definitely not "Scylla" in English. ;D ----TX55 15:34, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, here's the original a.t.t. discussion. Note Sipher's comments about "CentaurMan" for comparison. I believe "Scylla", or at worst, "Scylle" may be the best romanization we can get.--Apcog 15:49, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
