Sheriff Lock was using his radar gun one night, but was a bit annoyed that everyone was following the speed limit. He got his lucky break when a Volkswagen sped past. He gave chase, following the car, only to realize he'd perhaps bitten off more than he could chew, as it weaved dangerously around other traffic and around a corner on the wrong side of a crash barrier. After it entered the Pico Tunnel, he managed to draw level with it, only to realize that it appeared to be empty. He radioed in a report and tried to slow the runaway car by pushing it into the side of the tunnel, only for it to drive up onto the tunnel roof, transform into a robot, and crush the hood of his cruiser. Bumblebee
Sheriff Lock's involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, was also chronicled in the novel "Transformers: Bumblebee: The Junior Novel".
