The European Union or EU is, as its name implies, a union of European nations.
Fiction
2005 IDW continuity
As part of his plan to wrest Decepticon leadership from Megatron, Ramjet infiltrated the European Union Alternative Energy Research Center with autonomous bugs in the hope of finding a substance that could be harnessed into an energon substitute. When Megatron got wind of this plan, he left one of the dismembered Ramjet's legs at the research center as a warning. Spotlight: Ramjet
In 2008, the Decepticons seized New York City and began hitting other sites across the planet. A group of world leaders met in Versailles and discussed plans for a European Union assault on New York, and a plan within that plan to hit New York with a nuclear bomb during the attack, without telling all the nations involved. All Hail Megatron #6 Later, as Megatron and Starscream squabbled over Decepticon leadership in New York, the European Union sent fighter jets to attack them, All Hail Megatron #10 followed by a larger plane carrying the nuclear bomb. Unfortunately that larger plane was actually the Decepticon Tankor in disguise, All Hail Megatron #11 who dropped the bomb but it was ultimately intercepted and diverted into space by Thundercracker, who considered such weapons dishonourable. All Hail Megatron #12
Notes
- The European Union's role in All Hail Megatron is strikingly similar to that of the European Crisis Coalition in the Marvel comic "Rhythms of Darkness!". Though the latter story is set in 2009, the EU does not appear because the story was written in 1990, years prior to the EU being officially created by the Maastricht Treaty.
- Despite the similar names, the EU is separate from the ESA.
