Energon detectors are stationary installations designed to detect the Energon signatures of Cybertronians. They were developed by NEST as a means of locating and tracking Decepticons.

Fiction

Dark of the Moon film

Following the defeat of The Fallen, NEST installed Energon detectors around the globe. So effective were they, that Megatron was forced to hang out in the middle of nowhere in Namibia, Africa. Detectors easily pinpointed the Dreads as the Decepticons drove down the D.C. parkway.
