The yet-to-be-named JPL Engineer is a human from The Last Knight portion of the movie continuity family.

The JPL Engineer is...well...an engineer employed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He has little faith in magic, preferring to defer to physics.

The JPL engineer was jamming out to Asian music in his laboratory before the deep space monitoring network detected a planet sized-mass entering the solar system. Calculating that the object was moving at 1/10th the speed of light and on a direct course for Earth, he briefed a disinterested superior that the object was not a threat because it would most assuredly kill all life on Earth in three days time. Seventeen hours later, further scans confirmed that the object was in fact the Transformer homeworld of Cybertron. He later attended a briefing by the European Space Agency where it theorized that Cybertron would inflict tens of millions of casualties on Earth before he tracked the exoplanet entering Earth's atmosphere.

When Cybertron arrived however, it simply parked itself above Earth. A report by the returned Optimus Prime revealed the Decepticons were intending to revive Cybertron via the usage of the ignition chamber and the engineer rallied the room to begin figuring out the device's purpose. After General Morshower revealed the Autobot plan to have Viviane Wembly remove the Staff of Merlin from the chamber, the engineer dubbed it the dumbest idea that anyone could have had and declared he would be saving the planet via physics and mathematics.

After Quintessa had began the ritual to revive Cybertron, the engineer explained to world leaders that Cybertron was leeching the geothermal energy of Earth's core to reconstitute itself. He elaborated that Earth's core formed the magnetic field that protected the humans from cosmic radiation and if the core temperature dropped too low, the field would dissolve and essentially turn Earth into a giant microwave with the humans as the unprotected popcorn.

With the Decepticon defense around the ignition chamber proved too strong for the Autobots to break through, the engineer revealed his Hail Mary: physics! He proposed using tactical nukes to cause a nearby chunk of Cybertron to detach and swing into the ignition chamber thus saving Earth. While the human military managed to detach the chunk, the ignition chamber continued to function in spite of the impact with Earth death projected at fifty-five minutes. The failure of his plan sent the engineer into a mild catatonic state and he barely reacted when the Autobots managed to save Earth. The Last Knight
