Toybox

Toybox was a Japanese toy manufacturer, best known as the pre-Transformers creators of the molds that would eventually become Generation 1 Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx.

Noticeably, both designs were done not by Toybox but rather commissioned from Takara's then-rival (and, of course, later partners) Tomy - which explains why so many of Omega Supreme's parts are derived from Tomy's popular Plarail toyline of super deformed model trains! Whereas the earlier version of Omega Supreme would be released on retail in Japan as as "Super Change Robo Mechabot-1", Sky Lynx was only in the concept stages when Hasbro obtained the rights to its design, and plans for a domestic release of Toybox's own version of Sky Lynx eventually ended up being shelved.

Neither of these toys was released by Takara in their original Transformers toyline during the 1980s, given that they belonged to a national rival toy company (similar to Jetfire and the Deluxe Insecticons). Eventually though, after Takara and Tomy's merger, the original Tomy-designed molds would be tracked down and the two toys would get Japanese-exclusive reissues with the Transformers Encore toyline in 2008.
