Japanese Generation 1 continuity
« Super-God Masterforce »

The Super-God Masterforce toyline was introduced in Japan in 1988, as the successor to the Headmasters toyline, heralding a period of significant deviation between the Western and Japanese Transformers franchises.

Whereas the Headmasters toyline had featured but a handful of Japanese-exclusive toys and characters, Masterforce deviated even further from the Western G1 franchise (as did the cartoon that was made to promote it). A large number of the toys released in Hasbro markets in 1988 were not part of the Masterforce toyline, and those that did make it were assigned markedly different character identities from their Western counterparts, as well as occasionally different color schemes. Additionally, the line contained several exclusive remolded and new-mold toys, like Metalhawk and Overlord.
