The sonic boom rifle is a weapon from the Generation 1 continuity family.
"Bet I can shoot you faster than you can!"

Sonic boom rifles are weapons of surprising delicacy for an Autobot as unsubtle as Fastlane. They're capable of emitting a soft sonic whisper, capable of pushing aside a falling leaf — or powerful enough to shatter solid steel. One imagines that Fastlane doesn't use the former setting very often.

In tank mode, Brawl also boasts twin sonic cannons. Like Fastlane, he can also adjust the strength of each blast to shatter anything from a wine glass to a cinder-block bunker. In addition, his own loud, boisterous, mouth is also capable of shattering of anything up to his own head.

If he can't beat you to death with his own arm, Apeface will blow out your audio receptors with his semi-automatic sonic boomer. He can't seem to adjust strength of his blasts the way Fastlane or Brawl can, or he just doesn't bother taking it off of full-blast.
