Aimless

Aimless is a Targetmaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Because his other name was way too weird.

Aimless should have been called "Useless". This Nebulan's success rate when he tries to hit a target is unknown, because that would require him to, you know, actually try. Together with his Targetmaster partner Misfire, he's a danger to himself and others. Mostly others.

Aimless was a member of the Hive, the despotic rulers of Nebulos. When the Hive allied themselves with a group of Decepticons, he became the Targetmaster partner of Misfire. Aimless introduced himself to his new Decepticon partner with the line, "I live only to destroy our mutual enemies!" He then transformed into gun mode, dropped to the ground, and started randomly firing in all directions. After Misfire picked him, he told him that he thought the name Aimless "suited him better."

This perhaps suggests that Aimless was informing Misfire not of his intentions, but rather of his name: "I, Live Only To Destroy Our Mutual Enemies." Either that, or it's some bizarre scripting error or editing gaffe.

When the partners first engaged in battle together, Misfire criticized Aimless's lack of marksmanship. (He's one to talk!) Aimless responded that this was to be expected, as he was new at this. The Rebirth, Part 2

Marvel Comics continuity

Aimless was a construction engineer on Nebulos who turned laziness into a business opportunity by accepting kickbacks for doing substandard work on the job. After several buildings under his supervision collapsed in a highly public manner, Aimless considered a career change. He signed up with the Decepticons while Lord Zarak and Scorponok were in favor on Nebulos, undergoing the bio-mechanical engineering process necessary to become a Targetmaster. He was partnered with Misfire and was involved in an ill-fated attempt to keep the Autobot Headmasters from escaping their imprisonment. Brothers in Armor!!

Aimless came packed with his larger Targetmaster companion, Misfire. He's molded in blue and gray plastic, with the only paint application in his face. Basically, like almost all Targetmaster guns, he transforms by folding his legs. But unlike others, his legs are not on a hinge but a joint, and it's prone to break over time from stress. Be lucky if you find a complete one these days.
