The appliancebots came to life when Sam Witwicky discovered an All Spark fragment in the shirt he wore at the battle of Mission City. When he touched the fragment, it activated and he dropped it. It burnt a hole through his bedroom floor and into the Witwicky kitchen, where it sent out a pulse which brought the household appliances to life.
