The Trawler Project was an initiative pioneered by the Quintessons after they learnt that their homeworld of Quintessa was going to be destroyed and thus sought a new planet to call their home.
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Sevax was in charge of the project and specifically sought out a suitable metal planet to migrate to as their home world was dying due to the system's sun tearing it apart. The message canister that contained the necessary information flew off course and landed on the planet Junkion. This led to an attempt to recover the contents from Wreck-Gar as well as the invasion of several machine-based worlds such as Cybertron, but ultimately the Quintessons were defeated leading to their virtual destruction as Quintessa exploded from the forces that ripped it apart.
