The name or term "GoBots" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see GoBots (disambiguation).

After Hasbro aquired Tonka, in the late 1980's, the name GoBots and the character names, but not the toys themselves (which are owned by the Japanese company Bandai) became Hasbro's to use. Since then, Hasbro has used some of it officially in Transformers.

The first use of the newly acquired name "Gobots" was a for an G2 transformer. Gobots was an Autobot with water-squirting weapons.

Acourding to the G1 Gobots tech specs, the G2 Go-bots technology may be Gobotroid in orgin.
