Ghyrik personally prevented [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] from transforming Autobot City into its battle station mode, and then secured Arcee as bait for [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]]. Once Rodimus and the other Autobots arrived on Earth to look into Autobot City's radio silence, Arcee was strategically placed so that Rodimus would see her and call forth the power of the Matrix to heal her wounds. Once he did, however, the Quintessons stole the Matrix from his grasp, forcing the Autobot leader to revert back to Hot Rod. Despite his plotting, however, Ghyrik failed to prevent Hot Rod from reactivating [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] within Autobot City's core, and the massive Autobot quickly routed the Quintesson invaders. Faced with his own imminent defeat, Ghyrik desperately attempted to harness the power of the Matrix for himself. Despite channeling its awesome power, Ghyrik was ultimately defeated by a simple ventriloquism trick, distracting him long enough for Hot Rod to reclaim the Matrix and become Rodimus Prime again. General Ghyrik is a high-ranking Quintesson. Like most of his race, he is haughty, cruel, sneaky, deceptive... and very overconfident.
