Shōhei Kohara (小原渉平 Kohara Shōhei) was one of Takara's artists who translated the first year Transformers toy designs into character designs that were used in the early animated comic book and toy commercials. Some of these were also used in the first two issues of the Marvel comic book. These designs were modified further by Floro Dery for use in the animated series and comic books.
