The Andalites are a telepathic, organic alien species. They are highly advanced technologically, and boast a vast knowledge of the universe. Amongst their technological accomplishments, one most notable is "morphing" technology, which allows them to take up the forms of other organics by acquiring their genetic material through touch. Such technology can also be used to bestow upon humans the same ability, making them become Animorphs. These Animorphs are allied with the Andalites in the war against the Yeerks.
Overview
Physiology
An Andalite's physical appearance is often compared to that of a "centaur," a mythical beast of earth's culture. Their upper bodies are roughly analogous to that of a human, and their lower bodies resembling that of a horse. Though described as being covered in blue fur, yellow and red specimens also exist, apparently. Other distinguishing features include: seven-fingered hands, almond shaped eyes in the exterior of their heads, with additional "eyestalks" protruding from the top of their heads, and three vertical "slits" in place of where a human's nose and mouth would be located. Most notable of all, however, is a long tail ending with a scythe-like blade. It is this feature that is their main method of defense when in their original form.
