Out one day on his farm, attempting to blow up prairie dogs with dynamite, Old Tom was startled when the ground began shaking violently under him. He made a dash for a nearby hill, dodging the erupting ground, and watched as a huge hole appeared in the middle of his corn field. A while later, in a bar in a nearby town, he was embellishing the tale of his heroic escape to all listeners, when he was approached by the Autobot Machtackle, who was investigating the reported subsidence.

Old Tom took Machtackle to his corn field, where he was amazed by the Autobot's ability to split into Mach and Tackle. Following the pair's investigation of the hole, Mach handed Old Tom a prairie dog which he'd picked up, and the farmer finally realised he was wrong to try to get rid of the small animals.

While the Autobots were busy thwarting the Decepticons' latest evil scheme, Old Tom managed to get the bar patrons down to look at the crater (charging them for the privilege, of course). The destruction of the Decepticon energy plant caused water to flood into the hole, startling everyone present and turning the hole into a lake. The Autobots offered to fill in the crater for him, however Old Tom asked them to hold off; with the demise of his tourist business, he intended to try his hand at fish farming instead.
