Side Burn pretends to be Dion to pick up tail.

Synopsis

In a bar on Cybertron, an Autobot has unloaded his pain on supportive audio receptors. He recalls his time as a dock worker on storage yard 67, innocent times with friends like Orion Pax and Ariel. Then came the horror of watching their murder at the hands of Megatron, minutes before experiencing his own death.

The Autobot remembers his reawakening, his reprieve from eternity, and a second chance. Rebuilt from the ground up, he was now a soldier, fighting a war. He notes the cruel, cyclical nature of existence. He made new friends and rebuilt his life, only to see it all shatter again in the cold face of the enemy. Such is the fate of Dion, last survivor of the Elite Guard.

Oh, except this isn’t Dion telling Dion's story. This is Side Burn trying to use Dion’s tragedy to score with some bar chicks.

After he exposes the ruse, Prowl yanks Side Burn out before his angry new acquaintances can have at him. Prowl is aghast at Side Burn’s lack of decency and reminds him that impersonating an Elite Guard is a felony. For now, though, both Autobots have greater duties to attend.

Starscream invents sexual harassment.
"..along with my friends, Jazz, Prowl, Brawn, Ironhide, and - who the hell is that?"

Meanwhile, at Deathsaurus’s Lair, Starscream reports that the Combaticons' mission is a success: The Elite Guard have been destroyed. However, Starscream is concerned about the Combaticons being allowed into the Decepticon ranks, claiming they are only interested in furthering their own power and will betray him the first chance they get.

Deathsaurus assuages Starscream’s fear, telling him that such ambitions are what make them the perfect Decepticons. They're what separates them from the “stagnation and complacency of the Autobots”.

Preparing for their return, Starscream orders Lyzack to ready the medical bay, paying her some condescending flirtations in the process. While Lyzack is demure toward her commander, she harbors resentment in secret.

Back at the Citadel, Magnum gathers the remaining members of the Elite Guard, including the real Dion, to reassure the Autobot High Council that the Guard is still in operation. Their plans are halted by the assembly in the auditorium, with Optimus Prime accepting his position as leader of the new Autobot Military.

Notes

  • The opening page recounts some of the events of "War Dawn." Though we knew these events were in Dion's backstory, this is the first time we've seen them (and Dion's pre-Elite Guard body) in this continuity.
  • In an odd case of passing the torch, the backstory of 2010's TFCC free exclusive is told by 2011's TFCC free exclusive.
  • This is the first fictional appearance of both Cop-Tur and Road Rage.
  • The red waitress Transformer that Side Burn is trying to pick up looks like T-AI but is not T-AI. She's only supposed to look like T-AI. We are silly for thinking she's supposed to be T-AI. [1]
  • Like Side Burn's Robots in Disguise counterpart, he's berated by his universe's Prowl for being a good-for-nothing doofus.
  • Similar to the Cybertronian altmodes seen in the first episode of the original cartoon, Prowl's robot mode still looks like it transforms into a Datsun, but his trans-form is a vehicle that looks completely different.
  • Both Ironhide and Ratchet are shown in their Descent into Evil bodies, as Wings of Honor continues to feature the BotCon 2005 exclusives until someone finally buys the last few sets on the Club store.
