When a Transformer body is damaged or otherwise has become unsuitable for the spark it carries, Cybertronian medics can opt for a spark core transfer, a procedure also known as a spark transplant. However, such an operation is not without risk and could easily result into a permanently damaged patient.

The Chromia 10 had taken heavy damage in a battle with an enemy ship. The crew of the Axalon wanted to help the two occupants, but didn't have the time to repair them, so Rhinox suggested to perform a remote spark core transfer to two of the blank protoforms in the Axalon's cargo hold. The only problem was that he didn't have the proper equipment for that type of operation, which could lead to damages to the two's core mainframes.
